Cenni storici

La cappella della Madonna del Bussone risale al XVII. L’architettura è linda e regolare, benché non eccessivamente sfarzosa: dietro l’altare maggiore si ergono due colonne con capitelli corinzi, che reggono un quadro rappresentante la Natività. Al centro, sullo sfondo, posizionata all’interno di una piccola nicchia, si trova poggiata una statua in legno raffigurante la Madonna con il Bambino.

Sullo stesso stile era stato costruito l’altare, sostituito solo successivamente con l’attuale in marmo. Il presbitero e le cappelle risalgono ad un periodo successivo la costruzione del santuario, e ne sono un ampliamento; eseguite nel 1659 da Ignazio Pagano, per accedervi è necessario superare dei cancelli in ottone e ferro battuto.

Note

Il curioso nome della cappella si deve a una leggenda locale. La leggenda vuole che un contadino, di ritorno dal lavoro nei campi, trovasse in un cespuglio – “Bussun” in dialetto locale – un ritratto della Madonna. Felice, l’uomo lo portò a casa e lo fissò al di sopra del suo letto, rivolgendogli una preghiera prima del riposo.

Il mattino successivo il ritratto era sparito. Il contadino si diresse al lavoro, non facendone parola con nessuno: al ritorno si fermò al cespuglio, trovando il ritratto nuovamente lì. Stupito, decise di ritentare e riportare l’immagine a casa, ma il fatto si ripeté nuovamente. L’uomo, confuso, si chiese di quale colpa si fosse macchiato, tale da non permettergli di possedere la sacra effige, e si recò da Prevosto.

Il Prevosto raccolse l’immagine dall’arbusto, portandola in parrocchia e chiudendola a chiave in sagrestia: inutile dire che il mattino seguente il quadro era nuovamente tra i rovi di quel cespuglio, dai quali non voleva esser spostata. Proprio su quei rovi vennero poste le fondamenta per la costruzione del Santuario.

Historical notes

The chapel of the Madonna del Bussone dates back to the year 1600. The architecture is clean and regular, although not excessively lavish: behind the high altar they rise two columns with Corinthian capitals, which hold a picture representing the Nativity. In the center, on the background, placed inside a small niche, there is a wooden statue representing the Madonna with the Child:

the altar was built with the same style, it was later replaced with the current marble. The presbyter and chapels date back to a period after the construction of the sanctuary, and they are an extension of it; made in 1659 by Ignazio Pagano, to enter it is necessary to pass through the gates in brass and wrought iron.

Notes

The curious name of the Chapel is due to a local legend. Legend has it that a farmer, returning from work from the fields, found in a bush – “Bussun” in local dialect – a portrait of the Madonna. Being happy, the man took it home and placed it above his bed, praying to it before resting.

The next morning the portrait was gone. The peasant went to work, not talking about it with to anyone: on the way back he stopped at the bush, finding the portrait again there. Astonished, he decided to try again and bring the image back home, but the fact repeated again. The man, confused, wondered what guilt he was guilt of, such as not to allow him to possess the sacred effigy, and went to Provost. The Provost picked up the image from the shrub, taking it to the parish and locking it in the sacristy: needless to say that the next morning the picture was again among the brambles of that bush, from which it did not want to be moved. The foundations for the construction of the Sanctuary were placed on these thorns.
