Cenni storici

L’antico storico mulino della Ruata Bassa di Giaveno, oggi al numero 8 di Via Beale, fu edificato nel 1218, quasi 800 anni fa. Così racconta una targa ancora oggi parzialmente visibile sopra il vecchio portone di quercia all’ingresso del mulino. Già mulino abbaziale, appartenuto ai monaci benedettini del monastero della Sacra di S. Michele, nel 1877 era stato acquistato e restaurato da Giai Via Benedetto (Lou Detu), proveniente dalla vicina borgata Tetti Via (lou Cant dou Tet). Dal 1960 e fino al 1980 il mulino, gestito da Rosanna, ha continuato a macinare ma sempre più saltuariamente.

 

Ormai il prezioso lavoro delle vecchie macine non veniva più richiesto come prima. I tempi stavano cambiando, e con essi le abitudini di consumo, fino a quando le vecchie pale della ruota hanno definitivamente fermato le ancora robuste macine. Questo è uno dei più grandi e più antichi mulini della Val Sangone. Delle quattro macine di cui era composto, due macinavano solo grano, le altre due servivano per il granoturco, segala, avena, castagne e fave.

L’Associazione Culturale MULIN DU DETU nasce il 4 aprile 2018 a Giaveno (TO). I soci fondatori sono Giuseppe Colombatti, Carla Gianotti e Claudio Ostorero. Nel novembre 2016, quasi ottocento anni dopo la costruzione, dopo circa 35 anni di inattività, le porte del “Mulin du Detu” si riaprirono in occasione della festa di San Martino. Nell’aprile 2018 la decisione di fondare una Associazione, dopo un anno e mezzo ricco di soddisfazioni per aperture ed eventi per far visitare il Mulino, anche con il Patrocinio del Comune di Giaveno, ed in collaborazione con l’ Associazione Panificatori Artigiani De.Co. di Giaveno, partecipazione a tavole rotonde e incontri sui mulini, sia in Piemonte che in Val d’Aosta, nonché l’iscrizione all’associazione nazionale A.I.A.M.S. (Associazione Italiana Amici dei Mulini Storici)… Abbiamo tanti progetti per il futuro, legati principalmente al territorio piemontese, alle scuole (con laboratori didattici), collaborazioni a 360°, fattoria didattica, semina di grani antichi e storici.

Il mulino è uno dei protagonisti dell’iniziativa “Dal grano al pane, tra forni e mulini”.

Historical notes

The ancient mill of Ruata Bassa di Giaveno, today at number 8 of Via Beale, was built in 1218, almost 800 years ago. This what tells a plaque today still partially visible above the old oak door at the entrance of the mill. Already an abbey mill belonged to the Benedictine monks of the monastery of the Sacred of St. Michael, in 1877 it had been bought and restored by Giai Via Benedetto (Lou Detu), coming from the nearby hamlet Tetti Via (lou Cant dou Tet). From 1960 to 1980 the mill, run by Rosanna, continued to grind but more and more occasionally.

 

The precious work of the old millstones was no longer required as before, times were changing and with them consumption habits. All this until the old wheel blades had finally stopped the sturdy millstones. This is one of the largest and oldest mills in Val Sangone. Of the four millstones of which it was composed, two ground only wheat, the other two were used for maize, rye, oats, chestnuts and broad beans.

The MULIN DU DETU Cultural Association was founded on April 4, 2018 in Giaveno. The founding members are Giuseppe Colombatti, Carla Gianotti and Claudio Ostorero. In November 2016, almost eight hundred years after construction, after about 35 years of inactivity, the doors of the “Mulin du Detu” reopened on the occasion of the feast of San Martino. In April 2018 it has been decided to found an Association, after a year and a half full of satisfactions for openings and events took in place with the aim to increase the Mill’s visits. That also with the patronage of Giaveno town hall and in collaboration with the Association of Artisan Bakers De.Co. of Giaveno, a participation in round tables and meetings on mills, both in Piedmont and in Val d’Aosta, as well as the registration with the national association A.I.A.M.S. (Italian Association of Friends of Historic Mills)…

The Association has many projects for the future, mainly linked to the Piedmontese territory, schools (with educational workshops), full 360° collaborations, educational farm, sowing of ancient and historical grains.

The mill is one of the protagonists of the initiative “Dal grano al pane, tra forni e mulini”.
